Short-form video has overtaken the Internet, and every social media platform is scrambling to keep up with the viral success of TikTok.
A growing number of the platform’s users say they are using TikTok as a search engine for everything from trends and recipes to hobbies and tips. According to Search Engine Journal, this is due to:
- Short attention spans
- Unsatisfactory Google results
- Visual learning styles
In December 2021, TikTok briefly overtook Google to be the most popular domain worldwide, and in 2022 TikTok is now the most downloaded app.
Why This Matters
In the United States, TikTok is widely mistrusted and many companies and nonprofits avoid creating a profile on the platform. However, the short-form video format of TikTok (and other apps like Meta’s Reels) is not slowing down.
