Faith Trends
According to a new study from Barna Group, “66% of all U.S. adults say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important in their life today.” This is an increase since 2021.
This shift is not only statistically significant—it may be the clearest indication of meaningful spiritual renewal in the United States. Commitment to Jesus was lowest in 2021 and 2022, when it bottomed out at 54 percent. Since then, the research shows a steady year-over-year increase in the key indicator.
Why This Matters
These trends signal both opportunity and responsibility. The rise in personal belief underscores a renewed openness to spiritual conversations, suggesting receptive audiences for outreach and discipleship initiatives.
However, the data also reveal gaps—many who identify as believing still lack engagement in church communities or spiritual disciplines, indicating areas where ministries can focus to deepen commitment and growth.
Next Steps
This study represents a wonderful opportunity to respond strategically in these belief shifts and effectively shepherd young believers from their initial faith decisions into ongoing spiritual practices such as Bible engagement, prayer, and participating in a local church community.
