Workplace Trends
Before the pandemic, Eaglecom was an in-office workplace. Everyone lived locally and made the trek to the office each day. But in 2020, everything changed. We chose to use world events as an opportunity to become a remote-first company and added team members across Canada and the United States.
We know Eaglecom isn’t unique, and with more people working remotely than ever before, we’re collectively realizing the value of being together while working apart.
Twice a year, the Eaglecom team gathers for a few days of meetings, activities, and social events. We call this SOAR, as we are committed to professional and personal development that helps us “soar” in all we do for our clients and media partners.
I wrote up a summary of our most recent in-person gathering, which was themed “little things matter.”
Little Things Matter—A Simple Word or Action Can Help or Harm
You’ve heard of not “sweating the small stuff” and while I get the point, I beg to differ!
If you don’t think little things matter…you haven’t slept in a tent with one mosquito or walked a mile with a small pebble in your shoe!
I believe taking care of the little things leads to a big difference. A smile from a stranger can make someone’s day, an extra few minutes of sleep can provide much-needed energy, and remembering someone’s name (or their favourite flower) can make them feel valued and important.
And, what’s little to one person may be huge to another.
We have spent 28 years designing and building services and systems to fulfill the “big” projects, but we also believe that taking care of the little things will always make a significant and positive difference.
At our summer SOAR, we identified a dozen priority “tweaks” that we want to make in the next few months.
In many ways, these tweaks will build on what we have always identified as important:
• Developing strong relationships within our team, and with all clients and media partners
• Providing relevant and informed strategic agency services
• Staying on top of all things affecting people and message carriers
• Being administratively efficient and accurate
The small things often carry the most weight. We understand that it’s not just the big projects that matter, but the attention we give to every detail. As we continue to grow as a remote-first company, we remain committed to fostering connections, both virtually and in person.
Our ultimate goal is to BE a valuable part of the team within each organization we serve. We pray that we will BE a God-honoring team, dedicated to reaching more people with life-changing messages.
Next Steps
For hybrid and remote teams, offsite gatherings are invaluable. They create a stronger team atmosphere and foster empathy, compassion, and grace, leading to more effective collaboration. While these events require planning and resources, the long-term benefits make them well worth the effort.
