Giving Trends
Have you noticed a change in giving recently?
Sylogist, a technology company in the education space, has identified seven key trends in 2024 that are impacting nonprofits:
- Artificial intelligence
- Donor-advised funds
- Generational giving preferences
- Changes in individual giving
- Storytelling and transparency
- Digital fundraising
- Cloud-based software
Why This Matters
Some of these trends, such as artificial intelligence, may not be a surprise (can we make it through a day without hearing about AI and the future of work?), but others may require more context such as donor-advised funds (DAFs).
DAFs are becoming the preferred method for major donors. Once a donation is made to the charitable investment account, the organization has legal control over the funds, but the donor retains advisory privileges for how the funds are distributed. This could be a big shift in how funds are raised and the freedom to determine how they’re used!
Cloud-based software is not necessarily new, but migrating storage to the cloud means employees can securely work from anywhere with little more than a laptop and Internet connection. However, the cost and expertise needed to achieve cloud-based storage can be daunting.
Next Steps
If you want to stay on top of fundraising trends, we encourage you to read the findings from Sylogist in more depth by clicking here. And if you have questions about how to navigate these changes, let us know. We’re always happy to discuss and brainstorm.
What changes have you noticed in fundraising this year? I’d be curious to hear your thoughts.
