What AI Mode Could Mean for SEO

Search Trends

Last week during the I/O developer conference, Google announced their “AI Mode” inside Google Search will be rolling out to all Google users in the United States.

If you are one of the browsers selected for the rollout, you’ll have access to new features that go beyond typical search queries such as:

  • Deep Search (where AI takes your prompt and does multiple searches, generating a synthesized answer)
  • Project Mariner (where AI completes tasks for you such as booking travel or deal shopping)
  • Search Live (a chatbot-like interface integrated into search allowing for a conversational query)

Google says their goal is to create a more flexible and personalized Search experience.

Why This Matters

AI Mode represents a significant shift from the traditional list-based search results. By integrating advanced AI into Search functionalities, it offers synthesized answers, personalized insights, and the ability to handle complex, multi-part questions without the user leaving the site.

This has the potential to redefine user expectations and set a new standard for information retrieval.

It also has the potential to completely change how search engine optimization works (or doesn’t work) to get users to visit web pages.

Next Steps

AI Mode won’t replace the familiar search results page any time soon, but anyone working in SEO should keep an eye on how these advancements could impact web page traffic and search results. Now is the time to develop additional traffic strategies in addition to SEO and paid search.
