Podcasting Trends
39% of Canadians now listen to podcasts, with YouTube overtaking Spotify as the top listening platform.
This is according to Triton Digital’s latest Canadian Podcast Report (covering April 2024–March 2025). They report that the average listener consumes 3.9 different podcasts and 8.4 podcast episodes per week, signaling deeper engagement with digital audio content.
Why It Matters
No longer a niche interest, podcasting is now mainstream and part of the weekly media diet for nearly four in 10 Canadians.
As this medium matures, YouTube has overtaken Spotify as the most-used platform at 35%, followed by Spotify at 28% and Apple Podcasts at 15%.
News remains the most popular genre, followed by True Crime and Comedy. Canadian content also has a place, with Front Burner leading for English-language shows and Le Radiojournal leading in French.
For those working in faith-based or mission-driven organizations in Canada, this is a sign that there’s a growing, engaged audience ready for high-quality storytelling and they are searching for it on YouTube.
Next Steps
If you’re not already, consider adding podcasting to your media mix.
We recommend focusing on content that connects with listeners. Stories centered on current news, education, testimonies, and community consistently resonate with listeners.
