An Update on the State of Christian Media

Media Trends

On June 3rd, NRB and Barna Group released a “State of Christian Media” report.

The joint study found that more than 60% of American adults engage with Christian media, highlighting its extensive reach and influence in today’s culture. The primary reason they engage with Christian media is for encouragement.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, younger generations, Gen Z (64%) and Millennials (58%), are the most active consumers of faith-driven content.

Why It Matters

This research highlights a powerful opportunity for ministry leaders who are considering the future of media: Christian media is thriving among the next generation, and still retains widespread trust.

With trust declining for mainstream media, Christian outlets stand out.

Strong engagement among younger audiences proves that faith-based messages delivered through digital and broadcast media are culturally relevant and spiritually impactful . These trends suggest it’s a strategic time to invest in Christian media to deepen discipleship and expand Kingdom reach.

Next Steps

As you consider the role media plays in your ministry, let this be a prompt to allocate budget and creative energy towards Christian platforms such as radio, television, podcasting, and social media.

Keep in mind relational content tends to connect best with younger generations. This may be an interesting opportunity to empower new voices from Millennials and Gen Zs in your community through short-form content.
