Joshua 1:9…”Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Every December, I ask God to give me a word that He would like me to focus on for the coming year. I try to stay openminded and let the word come naturally. As is often the case, God bombarded me with scripture, comments, notes, calendar pictures and songs that all spoke of COURAGE. There was no doubt whatsoever that He chose that word for me for 2019.
But why God, do I need to focus on this word? What’s coming? This almost makes me afraid!
I have started my journey on the path of learning more about courage and of course, I have found it everywhere I look these days! This word isn’t more important than others and doesn’t replace my other studies, but I love how God helps me use my word for the year in many different situations.
Last year’s word was “discernment” and yes, I learned a lot about what that meant and how I would have to apply it to my life.
Some would say that courage is the strength in the face of pain or grief. What I do believe is that courage and fear don’t live together. I am commanded to be courageous…not because I am capable on my own strength but because of God’s strength within me. I believe that true courage will be manifested when I choose to take a difficult path because it is the right thing to do. Courage requires me to look beyond myself to what is best for another.
I will move forward into 2019 with courage to serve others and to lead a company that is owned by God. He will direct my path and He will give me the strength as needed. He knows that uncertainty can be scary and yet He also knows that this is how my faith grows. I will rest in the knowledge that God will be with me, wherever I go.
